The New Year's Eve Summary... in a NutShell...
Ok... so my lil saga starts @ around 5 pm last nite when I headed out to my friend Susan's apt...
1. arrived, and helped her decide sexy top she should wear... she must have went thru 10 tops before deciding...but it was all very fun... in the end though, she decided to wear her "I'm a slave for you" blue suede top, that attracts mucho attention...and she even added a KICK to the shirt.... all in all, all of us dressed to impress, and wore ensembles that focused on our best assets.hahah. pictures to come soon.
2. Tin arrived later on, with a chilled bottle of champagne ready for us to start downing! She even bought mini-bottles of Chambord, Kettle One, Grey Goose, Midori, etc. etc. so we could spike our drinks later in the evening.
3. We blasted Susan's mp3s while we were getting ready. These weren't just any mp3s. these were her OLD ASS mp3s from the dorms from 4 years ago. She had such classics as Riverdance, Monifah- touch it, Rumpshaker, Outkast-Rosa parks, old skool Madonna songs, Billie Meyers - Kiss the Rain, and a whole lotta OLD ASS mid 90's music. Very fun.
4. We all headed out to the strip in cabs, first stop saddle ranch for a decent buffet selection. The highlight of eating was when the band came around and played requests. "Chris and Mike" played Prince's Red Corvette on the guitar and the fiddle.. while we chimmed in with our New Years Blow ... that blowy new years instrument. The running joke of the evening was giving cute guys that were around a new years blow.... not an actual "blow" but a toot on the new years instrument thing.
5. Saddle Ranch was kinda dead @ 8 so we headed up the the "east" themed party @ Miyagi's as Saddle Ranch and Miyagi's were throwing an "East meets West" party last night. @ Miyagi's we ate some "asian inspired" food, STANDING, because all the damn tables were RSVP only, for those "big celebs" that would be coming, but never did... so what the hell? Moving on, eventually a table opened up and we sat, drank, and danced to the music videos that came on. And while these music videos came on, we "tooted" on our blowers with the beats and rhythms... we were the show in the rooom we were in.hahah.. Our favorite club videos came on, Xtina's Dirrrrty, and Justin's Like I love You.. we have muchos fun... that is until the Karaoke began @ 10... there were a couple good songs, but then people started singing buzz killers like "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and other cheesy, non-partying tunes. Oooh, and when Tin was halfway done with her Midori Sour, she decided to bust out a mni-bottle of Grey Goose and dumped it into her drink...and as she was dumping, the waitress is walking by, and sees her..and ends up scolding Tin, "Don't let me see you doing that again" hahahahah. Bad Tin..hahah. Moving on, the crowd was gettin dull..so we head back to "SaddleBags" @ 11 and decided to ring in the new year over there. Note: it was FREEEEZING on the Strip @ this time.
6. Back @ saddle ranch, Susan keeps telling us to "line up" our new years kiss. She was very eager, and @ the bar, she decided the bartender "name we do not know" would be the receiver of her new year's smooch. There was no one there worthy for me... so I bowed out of the "New Year's Kiss Agreement" that we had settled on earlier in the evening. =) We all got a couple more drinks, and when midnight was rolling around, Susan and Tin had had their fair share of drinks. They were getting close to the edge. @ midnight we champagne toasted, blew the blowy things outside on the patio...with hundreds of pedestrians walkin on the strip... lotta ghetto people screamin LEWD comments like "Where the titties!" Like..:PUH LEASE. BLEHH.
7. A lil while after midnight, Tin had to excuse herself to YACK, and then Susan ran to the restroom herself... where we found her eventually YACKIN over the toilet, feeling helpless. Her roomie decided to take her home, while the rest of us left too to catch a taxi back to susan's. In LA, you can't fit 5 in a cab, so we had to split. We left first, and with hella people catching cabs in our area, Tin, another friend named Jessica, and myself..decided we'd be "strategic" and catch a cab @ the Hyatt down the block. Needless to say, that turned out to be a BAD idea. When we got to the valet area, there was a line of people, and NO organization whatsoever. People were cutting in front of each other, grabbin taxi's from other people... it was bad. and it was COLLLLLLD outside. We had waited about 30 minutes when we get a call from Susan's roomate... apparently they were HOME already. Then we decide to ask her to come pick us up.... and we are standing out in the F****** cold as the hotel didn't let non-hotel guests into the hotel. FREEEZING.. literally FREEEZING, my nose wanted to fall off. It took Susie another 40 minutes or so to get close to where we were.. so we decided to venture out on foot to meet up with her car, which was stuck in traffic 1/4 mile away.... we walk, in the cold, freeezing our asses off, being victims of lewd comments again, and racist comments like "mushi mushi!" ...what are we japanese?!?! Assholes!! Anyways, I even met a hispanic stranger named walter, and shoook hands with him...hahahah.. movin on...we eventually met up with Susie and we B-lined to the car like a moth to a flame.
So yeah, a BAD BAD BAD start to a new year. The rest of the year better be better than last night. I hope everyone else had a good time. =)

New Year's Eve 2002----
Events that have happened and will happen today:
1. woke up and baked 8 delicious Neees -Le Toool-Hous Chocolate Chip Cookies. Warm, soft, yummy. 6 are gone. 2 are left. Where did the 6 go? Into my tummy cuz that is all I ate today as my lazybutt was in no condition to go out and get food.
2. Watched "What Woman Want" on dvd. And an enlightening quote, that resonated with me, and I'm sure will resonate with many of my girl friends:
Nick Marshall: [To Darcy] He made you feel the price you pay, just for being you, is that you don't get to have love.
--Being me is great and it is fabulous and truly rewarding and amazing in the BIG BIG picture, but is it really that great when it comes down to what really matters, down to what I want? = /
3. Getting ready to celebrate New Year's Eve 2k2 with my friends Susan, Tin, and Susan's Roomie Susie... @ Miyagi's/Saddleranch on Sunset. Should be a stellar evening with food, fun, people, and a champagne toast. Who are Susan and Tin? Two friends I met while interning @ New Line Cinema Publicity during the spring of 2002. They rule!
4. Reflecting on another year gone, and another year on its way. What shall make up 2003? My dreams becoming reality, is indeed, what I look forward too... with everyone I know and love, experiencing all of that with me.

Okay, feeling bored @ the apt. this lovely friday evening, so I read this Newsweek article (9/16/02) titled, "The Science of Happiness." In a nutshell, this article asks if a difference approach to psychology can lead us to the good life, a life of happiness.... and i read a wonderful thing:
"People living in extrem poverty are, on avg., less happy than those whose basic needs are met. But once we cross that threshold, greater wealth stops amking life richer. ... In American, notes Hipe College psychologist David Myers, real income has doubled since 1960. We're twice as likely to own cars, a/c's and clothes dryers, twice as likely to eat out on any given night. Yet our divorce rate has doubled, teen suicide has tripled and depression has increased tenfold."
In addition to this article, is a sub-article, "How to See the Glass Half Full" -- with 3 life lessons in love, work and raising kids.... imma focus on work... II. Turn Work Into Play -- this portion distinguishes three kinds of "work orientation": a job, a career and a calling. You do a job for the paycheck @ the end of the week, and when the wage stops, you quit. A career entails a deeper personal investment in work. You makr your achievements thru money, prestige and power, and you move on when the promotions stop. Unlike a job or a career, a calling is a passionate commitment to work for its own sake. The effort you expend becomes its own reward, regardless of the money or status it brings. People with callings are consistently happier than those with mere jobs or careers. And if you think callings are only for artists, think again. Recent studies suggest that any line of work can rise to that level.
In one seminal study, researchers led by Amy Wrzesniewski of NYU studied 28 hospital cleaners. Some viewed their work as drudgery, but others had found ways to make it meaningful. The cleaners with a calling beleived strongly that they were helping patients get better...they timed themselves with efficiency, they prided themselves on anticipating the doctor's and nurses' needs. And they took interest in brightening the patients' days, whether by rearranging furniture or decorating the walls. Researchers have seen the same phenomenon among secretaries, engineers, nurses, kitchen workers and haircutters. The key to contentment, their studies suggest, isn't getting the perfect job but finding one you can make perfect thru the use of your own strengths.
Part of what turns a job into a calling is the states known as flow.
Flow - complete absorption in an activity whose challenges mesh perfectly with your abilites.
Ok..that's it for today.

After a wonderful trip to Vegas with Mell, Shirley, and Wendy, I am back to the Blogspot, refreshed and ready to continue blogging.
I. Vegas - vegas was great since i have finally turned the big kahuna 2-1. But my luck in gambling sucks more than finals. I lost 40 dollars. Not much, but hey, it's still money. My roomie Mell on the otherhand, did extraordinarily well. Much props to her as she stepped away from the Flamingo Blackjack table $350 kahunas richer. Yay! Other PROMINENT vegas events: The Jay Chou concert on Xmas Day... attended by the entire population of Taiwan/Chinese people. How many chinese people were @ the concert? Tooooooooooooo many for me. Literally, black hair, pale faces EVERYWHERE. Like EVERY SQUARE INCH of the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Even though the statistical odds of finding a cute, chinese boy was @ its HIGHEST ever, @ this Chinese FOB/ABC Reunion, very few cute, chinese boys were seen, present, and visable. It was dearly sad. Jay was great though... lovely pipes, but his costumes and background dancers could use some much needed help. Which is why Mell and I came up with the idea for Grace to become his Choreographer that way she can launch her singing career by being friends with Jay, and falling madly in love with him @ the same time!!! =)
Besides the concert, we also went clubbing @ RumJungle, which happened to have CRAPPY ASS music the nite we went, and we also went to The Beach... a total, utterly, complete meat market with gross guys, but WAY better music than RumJungle. We had plenty of fun, fended off gross guys, and Mell even got hit on.......by a drunk girl.
Overall, Vegas was a lovely experience in itself, but next time, we must HIT UP, THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER, or a strip club. Hint: Annette's Birthday in February.... watch out Annette, you're gonna get a ton of THUNDER from DOWN Under....hehhehehee.

It is 4:12 AM, taking a 5 minute break from studying till my 11 am final. Studying Gender, media, communication...and I came across this fascinating excerpt from Susan Faludi's "Backlash: The Undeclared Ware Against American Women"
"..Professional women are suffering "burnout" and succumbing to an "infertility epidemic." Single women are grieving from a "man shortage."..Unwed women are "hysterical" and crumbling under a "profound crisis of confidence."///
How can American women be in so much trouble at the same time that they are supposed to be so blessed? If the status of women has never been hihger, why is their emotional state so low?
The prevailing wisdom of the past decade has supported one, and only one, answer to this riddle: it must be all that eqaulity that's causing all that pain. Women are unhappy precisely because they are free. Women are enslaved by their own liberation. They have grabbed at the gol ring of independence, only to miss the one ring that realllllly matters....They have pursued their own professional dreams)) and lost out on the greatest female adventure. The women's movement, as we are told time and again, has proved women's own worst enemy."
--Please ponder, and I shall give my piece-of-mind later on my next break. But bottomline: why must we be punished for goin' after our dreams?!?!?!

I'm feeling very chatty today...hahah so I came across this J.Lo bashing article on Entertaintment Weekly website: Hot Topic: Is Jennifer Lopez headed for a diva metldown?
Read it, it's quite hilarious. After that, read some of the reader comments below the article. Here are a couple exerpts:
CalBiNice- Sat, Dec 14, 2002 at 11:29 PM EST
Let's look at Jlo's patterns. She gets with Puffy to get ahead in the music business, dumps him, then marries some no-name so no one thinks she's a goldigger, drops him, now she's "marrying" Ben Affleck to get ahead in movies. What trash!
Cheryl- Sat, Dec 14, 2002 at 11:27 PM EST
I'm not a HUGE fan of Jennifer, but I do think she's talented. However, I am tired of constantly seeing her everywhere I look. I'm also tired of hearing about her and Ben. Give me a break J.Lo. Maybe you should actually take about 6 months off and just get to know the guy. But what do I know? I'm just a "regular" person.
Ahhh.. I love the world, I love editorial critque... now I shall resume studying. =)

Great song off the Drumline Soundtrack:
-Syleena Johnson, "Faithful To You"
everytime i think about the changes we've been goin thru,
i think of how losing you could be the worst thing i could do,
cuz no one makes me feel this way.. this calm, this warm,
this close, this safe,
you humble me in every way, with every word you say....
you make wanna sing, you make me wanna shout, you make me
wanna know what love is all about ,
you make me wanna try, you show me i can fly, im so faithful to you......
i know im just a girl, cuaght up in this world, i want you to know how
all that goes, to you i'll be true, and live my life to show you, im so faithful to you......
love is patient, love is kind, from me your love comes right on time,
i never knew i'd feel so good, just cuz you always understood,
and even though i went astray you took me back and let me stay,
and now that i have changed my ways, i wanna thank you for loving me anyways.......
whatever you do, ill be right there, wherever you go, ill be right there,
whatever you need, i will supply, cuz im faithful to you, and only you
you're the only one for me, youre the only one i need, you make me complete,
you're soo good to me, i'm soo faithful, my heart's so faithful to you now......
=)

Mariah Carey's "The One" Can the world say, "Helllll yea!" =)
See the problem with relationships
In general is that it's always a game
In the beginning they'll do
Anything to have you
And once they do it's never the same
And I, know everyone out there can relate
So the question is
One: do I really wanna trust this feeling
Two: do I wanna let it pass me by
Three: do you think it's only superficial
Four: could it actually be different this time
Someone to love me
Someone to be my everything
Maybe I've stumbled upon

I have yet to officially launch this on the web for the public, but i guess today is the day.
I'll start off with some of the cheesy thoughts that have gone thru my head today.
A. Worked @ J.CREW this afternoon, and got to know some of my co-workers better and it feels soo good to have this paying gig. The work is hard on the feet and the toosies, but with this job I have been able to: 1.earn $$$ 2. meet some amazingly nice co-workers that I look forward to seeing, and this is a feeling I get everytime I go to work 3. get to help people, enhancing my EXCELLENT customer service skills =) which, believe it or not, I love to provide 4. get out of the SC area and mingle with people I wouldn't normally mingle with 5. have a additional diversified social circle for me to be apart of cuz i love meeting new people 6. get J.CREW clothes @ a great discount!
B. So I got home from work, and I'm tired, hence, I watch tv with Mell, and since I got to choose what to watch, i decided to watchBEHIND the MUSIC: Faith Hill. And for all you peoples, I LOVE THIS show, and i love Faith Hill. Anyways, watching this just made me think how hard some people struggle and work to get to where they wanna be, and what they wanna become. Watching her whole story unfold left me in awe of her, and all those other people who kick butt in the world to succeed and be happy. So here's what I learned from watching BTM:Faith Hill: 1. she's adopted 2. she popped a blood vessel in her throat and had to rest for 3 months 3. she has gotten divorced before her marriage to Tim McGraw 4. after her divorce, she met Tim McGraw on some yada-yada Combustion Tour..she was the opening act 5. the hooked up on this tour 6. and they got married within 5-months of knowing each other and being together 7.she had a huge drive in life to make her dreams a reality. And, people, #7 is the biggest lesson, and reaffirmation of my life today. My goal from today, till I kick the can, to make MY DREAMS A REALITY.
So, whoever reads this, please HOLD ME TO THAT, incase i ever get distracted, which I don't see happening too much. But, yeah, I wanna be succcessful and happy, and I'm going to do what it takes, and get there.

Yesterday was a long, great, fabulous day. Started off with me attempting to make Funnel Cake for everyone. I was craving Funnel Cake because I didn't get a chance to go to Knott's Scary Farm this year, due to the fact that 1. My stomach can't take roller coasters anyone and 2. I've gone for the past 2 years, or 3 years is it? Anyways, they tasted fine, but presentation wise, they weren't pretty enough to give to my peeps. Sorry, KiDs!
Anyways, moving on thru the day, the best part about it: getting the call from J.Crew, saying they were offering me a job! The feeling is oh so great when you're done with all the interviewing process, and the place you wanna work for, for the time being, offers you a job! So I am now part of the J.Crew family! Training next Sunday, and then I start! Yay!
Besides J.Crew, we(you know who we is yes? We is "deltas" from here on out k?) had dinner @ Tony Roma's and it was fabulous. Everyone got to yap, joke around, cough sickies (me!), grub, laugh, etc. And I got to ask my daughters, "Which 3 Pledge Bros. would you date?" It was hilarious, sweet, and cute. You wanna know the answers? Well.... 2 damn bad. SECRET! =) The rest of the evening was uneventful.
Today, I introduced SATC, Sex and the City, to the daughters. We shall now watch episodes everytime anyone of 'em come over.
Any last thoughts before I post this? Hmm. Ah yes. A Recommended mp3 DL: Howie Day "Ghost", recommendation courtesy of Nick.
