LU BIEN TAN! AKA - Open Street Stand Restaurant!

So it's Monday and I have the day off. As tradition dictates, I usually have a big pow-wow dinner-like thing once a week with VIP guests. It's sorta along the lines of Oprah's Book Club -- but it's FOOD, instead. heheh. Anyways, I'm making Chinese Braised Beef tonight with Szechuan Eggplant, Chinese Long Beans with shrimp and some other chinese greens. Anyways, I needed the recipe for Chinese Braised Beef with daikon today so I called my Dad on the cell and he gave me the gist of the recipe in a nutshell...and so I embarked on the cooking. After cookin' all afternoon my silly dad AIM's me with the following conversation:

GEO0316: How is the beef soup?
UscJessC: DELISHIOUS
UscJessC: turning out well!
UscJessC: :-P
GEO0316: Wow!!!!!You may open a beef noodle STAND.
UscJessC: lu bian tan! definitely!

What is lu bian tan? It's Chinese for Street Side Food Stand basically. In Taiwan these LU BIAN TAN's are EVERYWHERE as these stands serve some of the local's favorite dishes such as wontons, beef noodle soup, dumplings, and small dishes. It originated during the 1950's when 2 million Nationalist Chinese fled the mainland, taking refuge from the Commies. To make a living in their new residence, many of the refugees set up shop these stalls selling foods from their homeland - and beef noodle soup quickly became a very popular delicacy. There ya go. Nui Ro Tang Mein (beef noodle soup) in a nutshell.
