Today's Desperate Housewives Moment: Marcia Cross came into my store today and bought a cozy cardigan. My co-worker decided to tell her, "Congrats on your new show!" She said, "Thanks! it's a lot of fun but tiring." This was all @ the register and I was next to my associate. hahha.

Today I'm The Proud New Owner of a Mattress -- at least monetarily.

After work this evening, Spencer and I headed down to the local Sit'n'Sleep in his lovely ride to check out nests. Both of us have been on the hunt for a great mattress and a competitive price. I did research earlier this week at 3 mattress stores and rallied together a price for Sit'n'Sleep's LARRY "...or it's FREEEEEEEEEEE!" to match and better. I've had my eyes set on the Spring Air Liberty with Pillow Top for the week and so Spence and I went in with a mission.

We went in and was quickly approached by Ali, the store manager. I gave him my film shhhpeel. "Hi, both of us are lookin' for a mattress today. He's lookin' for a queen and I'm lookin' for a full. I've done a lil' research, went competitive mattress shopping @ Leed's, Mattress Gallery and Ortho...." Ali chimes in, "It must have been very confusing..." I go, "A lil bit but I went to Leeds and got a price quote(I busted out the business cards and number quotes), and I also spoke to Angie and she said she'd match the price. I have my eyes set on an Spring Air Liberty, do you have it in stock?" This is where Ali shows us the mattresses and we roll around and test the puppies out and Ali goes to calculate what kinda deal he can give us. He has to work with Leed's quote of $399....mattress/delivery. Sit'n'sleep initially quoted me @ $425. =) Ok, he comes back with $399 out the door, and $420 for Spencer. And we're pretty much sold after doing a few turning radi' on the bed and further testing.

As we settle the paperwork, we discover that he grew up in West Covina and coached my store manager's lil brother in Football and even knows my store manager Jen. Crazy world. AND he went to SC. AND HE THREW IN a COUPLE EXTRA POLYFILL HYPO-ALLERGIC PILLOWS. HAHHA. What a day.

In conclusion....

1. Do your research when mattress shopping. Let them know that you've done your homework.
2. Engage in competitive bargaining... 2 heads are better than 1.
3. Engage in conversation with anyone you do business with... you'd be surprised how small the world really is....really.
4. Fight on. Two words to live by.
5. My mattress arrives WED. if you'd like to come over and jump on it. Old mattress will be moved downstairs in the meantime til BDAY WEEKEND so my guests have something to sleep on since the couch and futon don't accomodate the expected # of guests. hehe.
6. Medium-firm. Medium-firm. Pillow top! Pillow top!

THE COOL BRISK SANTA MONICA WIND

Driving home tonight from work, I had the windows down and, boy oh boy, did it feel great! The clean air and wind after the rain, CRISP and refreshing, were the highlights of my day. That, and getting Mell's itinerary in my gmail box knowin that she and Annette are FO SHO flying down for Bday 2004.

Other highlights of the week so far:
*Eating a Banana/Chocolate Chip Danish from AMANDINE. You've never ever had better consumable bliss.
*Bargaining for a Full Size Mattress: Spring Air Liberty with Pillow Top.
*Doin' 20 minutes of Pilates today, and already aching 12 hours later cuz Pilates is ALLL ABOUT QUALITY not QUANTITY.
*Rememberin' how someone else can make you feel warm'n'fuzzy in a very G-rated way with only their sole company and conversation. I wish I could feel this every day.
*Asking life why it is so hard for boys to want a girl for more than just play. I don't think it's that girl's won't play with boys, it's that girls want to be there for the play and the BAG OF CHIPS. Maybe boy's don't come equipped with a bag of chips? That's why we go lookin' for the BAG OF CHIPS ..aka pure company and conversation from their friends?

THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO:
*Desperate Housewives
*Sunday Dinner
*Gym
*New mattress
*Monthly $$Bonus$$ *Cha-ching!*

The Curse of Holiday Birfdays

This entry is a shout out to all my friends and loved ones and all those who have birthday's on/during holidays!

The pits of having a birthday during a holiday. Thanksgiving! Xmas! These two holiday's are probably the worst to have them on. Let's first empathize with our mom's though cuz regardless of the fact that it was the day we came into the world, it was the finale day of our mom's 9-month journey of pain, out-of-control hormones, 30 lbs. of extra weight and added stress to bring out big heads out into the world --- with anesthesia or not. God bless those mom's who did it without drugs. Anyways, one one hand, birthday's should really be a celebration to our mom's for all of the hardwork it took to bring us here, but let us holiday babies wallow in our own pitty for just a few minutes.

Yours truly's bday falls on Thanksgiving many times out of the year. If it doesn't fall on the Thursday, it falls during the Thanksgiving holiday. This means everyone should be at home home with their loved ones..and rightfully so.... but these babies end up having to celebrate it more or less ALONE since smart people like myself, work retail...and CAN'T go home. So this Thanksgiving, I get to go to bed early so I can wake up before dawn to prepare J.CREW for the onslaught of the biggest shopping day of the year. No beers. No cocktails. No wine. No nothing on the night of my bday if I care to function at optimal performance @ work! Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, because of these circumstances, I have taken the initiative to plan my birthday celebrations that work with group gatherings.... 3 WHOLE WEEKS IN ADVANCE! Yes, you heard it right, I'll be celebrating it in the beginning of Nov. as opposed to the end that way everyone can attend. It's also a good excuse to get everyone to fly into LA for a weekend to be insanely crazy with partying and food. We have Daj/Kat flying in from the southwest AZ with Danny and Eric...representing the 480, Libbi and friend, Mell and Annette reppin' the 510/650, respectively, and all the LA peeps reppin' the 310/213. I can't wait! I just hope I make it past 1230 am this year and NOT leave my own party cuz I need to pass out.

Cheers! More to follow!
